Request AppointmentIt is always a privilege and an honor to witness authentic and lasting change in my client’s lives. My priority as a therapist is to create a warm, non-judgemental, and safe environment for clients to process their emotions, relationships and experiences. You’ve made it here, which means you have already taken action for change.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate, I’ve been trained to walk alongside couples and individuals through the most difficult seasons of life. I use evidence-based practices such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and The Gottman Method to help partners uncover underlying emotions and communicate more effectively for connection, compassion, and caring. Research shows that EFT typically helps 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery, and over 90% of couples report significant improvement. I am passionate about working with couples and assisting with identifying the deeper roots of their struggles, so that each partner can get what they need and the couple can rebuild from the ground up.
Maria is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (#204415) in Texas supervised by Elise Thompson (#200800) and Jennifer Kendall (#203322). Maria graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and earned her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Woman’s University. Request AppointmentI believe that healthy relationships are key to living a happier and more fulfilling life. However, there’s no denying that relationships are hard, and sometimes even a little bit messy, especially when life throws unexpected obstacles our way. Relationships are complex, whether it be the relationship you have with yourself, or the ones with your parents, siblings, partner, family members, friends, or co-workers. Maybe you are having a hard time being kind to yourself, or you’re feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, or stuck. Perhaps you are feeling disconnected, frustrated, or unappreciated in your relationships. Or you might be on a journey of personal growth or seeking to strengthen your relationships, but you are not sure where to start. I view therapy as a space for clients to seek growth, explore helpful solutions, and cultivate meaningful relationships. I help individuals, couples and families connect with themselves, with others, and with the things that bring purpose to their lives to create lasting change. As a therapist, I believe you are the expert on your life, and I am simply the expert on creating change; we can work together to reach your goals.
My therapy style is collaborative and person-centered, meaning that I strive to meet you wherever you are in your mental health journey. I practice from an integrative perspective and draw from a combination of modalities to best meet your needs and goals. I promote growth by providing a safe, culturally inclusive, and LGBTQ-affirming space for you to feel seen, heard, validated, and empowered to create the change you are seeking.

Request AppointmentAt its core, participating in therapy is an act of courage. I believe that a willingness to examine your life and your relationships honestly is the best way to figure out what works, what doesn’t, and what areas need attention. Often, a clear-eyed examination of your life and your relationships with those you love will turn up not only areas that need work, but also areas of strength, ability, and resilience. I love helping individuals, couples, and families identify the things they do best, then apply those skills to areas of their life that need help.
No relationship is perfect, and room for improvement is found wherever there is imperfection. I’m not afraid of conflict and facing difficulties head on. I firmly believe that doing better—getting better at being a part of a family or a couple—is within reach for every couple who is willing to try. I reliably focus on process over content; that is, it’s not what you’re arguing about, it’s how you argue. Conflict is unavoidable, but treating each other with gentleness and respect is a skill that can be learned and developed, and I am here to help.

Request AppointmentI believe that therapy can be beneficial and transformational for anyone. We seek connections with others, we experience changes in our lives, and we deal with unusual circumstances that can overwhelm us. Therapy helps us identify patterns and find strategies to change them or create new ways of being and relating to others to help us achieve our goals. I see my role as a therapist as collaborative and nonjudgmental. I strive to maintain a warm, culturally sensitive environment that still challenges you to explore and make necessary changes that we identify together.
I practice mainly from a cognitive, humanistic, and interpersonal perspective and integrate evidence-based practices to meet the individual needs and goals of each client.  This means that I believe how we think about our emotions or situations determines the choices we make. I believe that the goal of the therapeutic relationship with my clients is to help you achieve lasting change. We will work together to create a plan based on your unique and specific needs.

Request AppointmentI specialize in treating couples and individuals with relationship issues. Whether you’re married, living together, or dating, I’m experienced in helping people just like you. Or maybe you’re divorced and need help co-parenting, I work that population too. I am trained in interpersonal relationship dynamics and processes. I’ve conducted research on couples and would love to help your relationship thrive. I help people reconnect with their partner, rekindle the passion they once had, and redefine their relationship moving forward. I work WITH clients instead of for them. Your goals are my goals and I have the training and experience to assist you in meeting those goals.
As a Christian, I recognize the power of faith in anyone’s life and relationships. Although I am not a Christian Counselor, I love the opportunity to incorporate faith into the therapeutic process when applicable. I have seen firsthand the transformative power of faith in and out of the therapy room, and would be happy to walk that path with you as well. However, if you are not a person of any particular faith or don’t see that as a part of your journey, I’m always desiring to meet you where you’re at in life.

Request AppointmentWe don’t have to do it all alone. We were never meant to.
— Brené Brown
The quote above drives my work as a therapist because I believe that we need the help and connection of others to thrive; and that is where I fit into the picture. As an licensed marriage and family therapist, I am trained in relational systems and have the ability to help individuals, couples, and families to create and maintain connections that bring joy and belonging into your lives. Studies show that people with deep and meaningful relationships have better mental and physical health than those who lack those relationships, which is why I am so passionate about working with you to make sure those relationships are healthy and happy.
I practice mainly from the therapy lenses provided by Contextual Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. This means that I believe that having context and background into issues, relationships, and ourselves is an important place to gather understanding and then once we have that understanding, we can move to a place where we use that context to find solutions. That being said, I believe that the therapeutic relationship with my clients is the most important component to creating effective change, so I meet my clients where they are and create a plan on a case-by-case basis to best meet your unique and specific needs.
