What Is the Purpose of a Cognitive Test for Dementia?
Cognitive tests for dementia allow health professionals to determine if a patient is experiencing a decline in their thinking ability. A cognitive test can also help determine if a patient requires additional testing for Alzheimer’s or has mild cognitive impairment. Patients with Parkinson’s disease may also receive neurological tests for dementia to identify potential cognitive impairment.
What to Expect During Your Cognitive Test
There are several different types of cognitive tests available for patients. Each test involves answering questions and performing simple tasks to test mental functions such as short and long-term memory, language and awareness of time and place. The evaluation also includes an in depth clinical interview as well as involving caregivers when appropriate.
After Your Cognitive Test
After your dementia evaluation, you will receive your results. If you receive a dementia diagnosis your therapist may categorize it as a mild, moderate or severe case. However, this test cannot diagnose the exact of your dementia. To learn the cause, you may need to return to your doctor or see a specialist.
While dementia is not curable, you can slow the symptoms with medicines and healthy lifestyle habits. If you are experiencing anxiety or depression after your diagnosis, our therapists will help you come to terms with your diagnosis and develop healthy coping strategies or recommend medications as needed.
When Should I Receive a Cognitive Test for Dementia?
Patients can receive a dementia screening test at any age. If you are showing the following symptoms, you may want to receive a test to ensure you are not at risk for a more serious impairment:
Forgetting important events and appointment times.
Frequently losing items.
Trouble speaking or remembering words you typically know.
Losing your train of thought while speaking, watching movies or reading books.
Having an increased feeling of irritability or anxiety.
If you are not sure if you’re exhibiting these symptoms, you may want to talk to friends or family members to learn if they have noticed a change in your behavior or these symptoms.
Our Reimbursement Process
The team at SCC is passionate about ensuring our clients get the treatment they need. We can provide you with the resources you require to submit your insurance claims for our services.
Going to an out-of-network therapist can come with several benefits. They can provide highly personalized services, quick booking and more frequent sessions than in-network providers. For people that are looking to use insurance benefits for counseling, some out-of-network services are eligible for partial reimbursement.
At SCC, we use Superbill — a service that allows us to submit reimbursement claims on your behalf should you choose to opt-in. With Superbill, your claim is optimized and processed quickly with guaranteed delivery to your insurance provider. Every cent of your insurance reimbursement will be sent back to you — Superbill does not take any percentage, nor does SCC. Additionally, you can contact Stanford Couples Counseling for real-time claim status updates. We can help you view every claim you have submitted in one place.
